Brooks Brothers WIWT- What I Wore That one day

Brooks Brothers WIWT- What I Wore That one day

Probably one of my most favorite shirts that I own from Brooks Brothers, and this pocket detail is one of the reasons why .. The grosgrain ribbon over the pocket , it’s a small detail but noticeable enough to set the shirt apart from your average oxford.

CAN YOU JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER ??

Image

Would you believe me if I told you that the above photo was an actual mugshot?  This photo is of William Stanley Moore of Australia , an accused “opium dealer operating with large quantities of faked opium and cocaine. Also a wharf labourer and associates with water front thieves and drug traders., photograph courtesy of The Sydney Police & Justice Museum. I have had this conversation with several people, including my friend Mark who inspired this post as well as The Wildlife Reserve’s Micaiah Bethune, who would use examples such as this during mentoring programs .    As a society of free thinking people, we tend to always say “Never judge a book by it’s cover ” . The fact is often times either professionally or personally we collectively do the exact opposite. This is one of the reasons why I think it is important to define and refine your personal style. Does everyone belong in a suit and tie daily, or better stated does everyone require that particular style of dress in their day to day? No of course not , but you should always put forth a conscious effort to look your best regardless of the situation even if your just out and about running errands or in chill mode during the weekend. You never know who you could run into wether it be a potential employer, or a potential soul mate.   Your style of dress is one of the most expressive forms of non-verbal communication you have at your disposal.  So the initial question is ..what does your style say about you at first glance? Or is this appropriate for the setting that I am entering into. People naturally are trusting of a person with a polished appearance.  The effort placed in putting together ones appearance for say ,a job interview communicates to your potential employer “I take this seriously” , and “I want to show you why I am the best candidate”.  Or to a lady you’re taking out on a date “I felt you were special so I made the effort” . When you are dressed your best, no one can tell how much money you have in your pocket or what your station in life is and that automatically gives you a leg up . While the old saying still goes that “you can’t judge a book by it’s cover ” ..If the cover is intriguing enough you’ll at least make an attempt to read before dismissing.

The ABC of Men’s Fashion w/ jeffstaple via HypeBeast

It was Mark Twain who made famous the adage that “clothes make the man.” The lesser known latter half of that statement was “…Naked people have little or no influence on society.” While a naked person’s influence could perhaps be argued, did Twain intend for the statement to be literally interpreted, or do you think it’s the man himself that creates the influence? In this video, jeffstaple of Staple Design shares his own opinion on where such an influence is born. Staple’s monologue and the video short was edited by London menswear label Hardy Amies.

Metro Retro Apparel

Just in time for fall ! New looks from New York based designer Kamrul Hassan’s label Metro Retro Apparel.

The Designer :

A native New Yorker Kamrul Hasan has been designing since the age of 14.  In 2001 his passion for men’s clothing was discovered when he began working for the custom clothier Addison on Madison. Once graduating from college with a degree in graphic design and an evolved vision on men’s fashion, he began creating ties for himself and his close friends originally just as a hobby. Positive responses from friends and strangers prompted him to launch his own label, and in 2008 and the label was born.

About The Brand

Since their launch in 2008 Metro Retro has continued to deliver quality hand crafted products.  A various assortment of neckwear and accessories that includes neck ties, bow ties, handkerchiefs, pocket squares and the ever popular “pocket circle” , a whimsical and stylish take on the traditional pocket square. According to Metro Retro Apparel their accessories are carefully handpicked and sourced within a 20-mile radius from local distributors, and hand crafted right in the heart of the city.  Metro Retro Apparel takes the traditional and adds a fun punchy twist , combining luxurious fabrics such as cashmere , silk, english wool with dashing colors and patterns. Ties and accessories may range in price from $45 to $115. The team over at Metro Retro Apparel were kind enough to send me a few items, to try out for myself. Click the links and pick a few out for yourself.

Cheers!

The Frank Clegg X IG Ultra Slim Card Case

 ImageImageImageImageImage

Give the pockets of trousers and suit jackets a rest , and stop making yourself a target for pick- pockets on the subway . If you’ve been carrying around that huge billfold for so long that your physician mistakes it for a tumor your relief is here.

Famed leather maker Frank Clegg of Frank Clegg Leatherworks and Grant Harris of Image Granted, LLC have collaborated and created The Frank Clegg X IG Ultra Slim Card Case . Here are a few words from Mr. Grant Harris himself describing the attributes of the product .

“If you’re anything like me then you don’t like a bunch of junk in your pockets reminiscent of Costanza messing up the line of your outfit so Frank and I worked together to make something for the minimalist, or at least those trying to be.”

“The case is completely unlined using Frank’s storied vegetable tanned leather.  Even Frank hasn’t made something this slim in all his years of work.  There are two outside pockets and one center pocket.  It features our logos discreetly printed under one side and the customer can request his or her initials to be printed on the other.  We aimed to make something simple, affordable, and useful.  I use mine everyday.” – Grant Harris, MBA Image Granted,LLC

This card case is now available for sale on Frank Clegg Leatherworks .
